Abstract
Addressing workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is a critical topic for the future of work, and the integration of AI tools in the recruitment process presents potential solutions. To understand the existing knowledge on the impact of AI recruiting on workplace DEI, this study synthesizes the research trend, theoretical foundations, methods, and key findings in existing studies through a systematic literature review of 30 identified articles. Our literature analysis uncovered four prevailing research streams: (1) applicants, (2) decision-makers, (3) mixed perspectives, and (4) algorithms. Through thorough analysis of all streams, we found that the current literature lacks consistency in findings regarding the role of AI recruiting in influencing workplace DEI. Meanwhile, prior studies remain fragmented and interdisciplinary in nature, highlighting that more concrete theoretical foundations and empirical studies are desirable to inform future research. We conclude the study with a detailed discussion and suggest several avenues for prospective research.
