Abstract
he emergence of AI technology has provided alternative information carriers for users to seek health information, while also posing challenges in communicating potential risks in this aera. Guided by the planned risk information seeking model (PRISM) and the comprehensive model of information seeking (CMIS), we employed a formative evaluation approach to investigate the underlying motivation patterns and corresponding predictors of users adopting AI technology for health information seeking. The results of an online survey (N = 1,051) of users in Hong Kong who had experience with AI technology revealed five heterogenous latent profiles that vary in their sociopsychological characteristics and perceptions of AI technology as an information carrier for seeking health information. Furthermore, across these five profiles, individual differences in demographic attributes and anthropocentrism, in turn, shape the profile membership. Characteristics of each profile and their predictors were illustrated, along with potential focuses of communication strategies for each group.
