Abstract
Drawing on the theory of deontic justice, our study expands on prior research on abusive supervision by studying abusive supervision differentiation (AS differentiation) and exploring its team-level outcomes and boundary conditions. AS differentiation is a team-level construct and is defined as the degree of variability in subordinates perceptions of supervisory abuse within a work team. Three-phase data were collected from 91 teams (363 subordinates and 91 supervisors) in China. Task interdependence and team identification jointly moderate the link between AS differentiation and team performance such that the negative relationship is strongest for teams with both high task interdependence and high team identification. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
