Abstract

The design and implementation of a channel router which uses the method of simulated annealing are presented. This research not only leads to a better understanding of the capability and limitations of the method of simulated annealing as a general design methodology, and of some of the intricate technical aspects of the methodology when applied to the channel routing problem, but also produces a channel router that performs as well as several well-known channel routers and is potentially a powerful practical design tool.
