    Abstract

Frequent occurrences of disasters make the South Asia region one of the most vulnerable regions in the world, and floods are very common here. Different countries in this region face the impacts of floods differently, taking necessary actions to minimize the impacts on life and resources. Following this background, we conducted a study to understand current practices and challenges regarding natural flood management in Bangladesh, India, and Nepal. These three countries are adopting both structural and non-structural measures as flood mitigation approaches; however, there are still several significant challenges in these countries in various forms. To ensure sustainable natural flood management, proper formulation and implementation of national legal documents and international agreements should be established. This study aimed at helping different stakeholders, including policymakers from the local to the national level, to take necessary actions to ensure sustainable natural floodwater management in South Asia.
