Abstract

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (Al) offers both significant opportunities and potential risks to human society. Recent events have accentuated the importance and urgency of addressing the risks associated with Al.

Therefore, how to control the risks presented by Al or to limit Al to prevent harm to human interests is an urgent and pressing issue. One of the ideas to achieve this goal is that Al should be nurtured like a child, instilling it with humanity's foundational values and ethics. Recently, the application of rule-based ethics to guide Al's actions has encountered numerous challenges, suggesting that a virtue-based approach could be a viable solution.

In addition, Chinese philosophy has a wealth of ethical resources, many of which have not entered the mainstream Western discussion. For example, Confucian ethics can provide resources to answer the problems encountered by the agent-centred virtue ethics. It may help us to deal with the theoretical problems of developing the virtue framework for Al.
