N2 - B-Bc Ms 13878 is a recently rediscovered manuscript currently housed at the Bibliothèque of the Conservatoire Royal de Musique in Brussels. With the exception of the last piece, the entire book was neatly copied by one competent scribe. The source offers new readings of Dieupart’s pieces that were published in 1701 in Amsterdam, transcriptions of stage music by Lully and Steffani, settings of two French airs as well as several anonymous pieces, a number of which have strong French characteristics in notation and language. This article discusses the physical evidence of the source, scribal characteristics, musical contents and concordances with other sources in order to evaluate the significance of this manuscript for the French repertory and its transmission during the early eighteenth century. The appendix provides a detailed inventory of this manuscript, the first of its kind in modern scholarship.
