Abstract

SEA2025’s theme, ‘Dong-Dong (憧憧): Creators’ Universe’, seeks to transcend conflict and division, igniting a global movement of unity. Inspired by Diotima’s philosophy on love and creation, it envisions humanity rising beyond the mundane into an eternal state of limitless possibilities.

Rooted in the I Ching’s wisdom, ‘Dong-Dong’ embodies the longing for connection in an increasingly fragmented world. As global crises intensify amid technological marvels, the theme invites reflection on the values that shape our future.

ISEA2025 challenges conventional boundaries—East and West, art and science, materiality and spirituality—embracing the vision of Nam June Paik, who championed spontaneity and solidarity. Held in Seoul, a city where tradition meets modernity, it provides a fertile ground for creative exchange, underscoring its role as a divided nation’s capital.

Art has long illuminated human experience, generating beauty that transcends barriers. With technology amplifying creators’ universes, ‘Dong-Dong’ awakens the spirit of innovation, inspiring a world where connection and imagination thrive.

Hello, World Home! (2024)
XR installation
Kachi Chan, Wingshan Wong

Hello, World Home! is a speculative art project exploring data capitalism, artificial life, and the merging of physical and digital realms. It critiques systems like World ID, which categorize entities into bio-humans and non-humans, exposing ethical risks in commodifying identity and decentralizing personal data. Using an AI-powered camera and mixed-reality (XR) installations, the project visualizes a world where personal data evolves into autonomous digital life forms.

The project has two components: The Transmitter, an AI camera that captures real-world imagery, processes it through image-to-text and text-to-3D modeling, and removes human figures to create a humanless landscape. Extracted data is transformed into digital entities, animated to reflect confusion and curiosity, symbolizing fragmented identity in a data-driven world. The Portal is an immersive XR environment where users interact with these entities via VR, creating a disorienting feedback loop between physical and digital spaces.

Developed during a residency in Gwangju, South Korea—a city symbolizing democracy and resistance—the project contrasts historical struggles for freedom with modern digital control. As Koreans increasingly rely on apps like Kakao and Naver, algorithmic governance grows. Hello, World Home! critiques this shift, questioning autonomy and identity in a world dominated by data capitalism, urging reflection on the ethical implications of emerging technologies and human-digital coexistence.
