    Abstract

In the post-war Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Baptist Association endeavoured to promote the Christian medical philanthropy. In 1956 it established the Hong Kong Baptist Clinic and in 1963 further expanded to the Hong Kong Baptist Hospital. The foundation of the Hong Kong Baptist Hospital marked the continuation of the tradition of the Baptist missionaries in China to spread the Gospel by means of provision of medical treatment. Its establishment demonstrates the Hong Kong Baptist Association’s success to mobilize transnational Christian resources, obtaining different types of support from the Hong Kong government, the Southern Baptist Convention and the Baptist churches and brethrens overseas. The influence of Christianity can also be seen in the operation of the hospital.
