Abstract

Objective To study the distribution of yunqi (five circuits and six qi) in birth dates of patients with cerebral infarction (CI). Methods Descriptive statistics was used to describe the features of heavenly stems, circuits of year, dominant qi and guest qi in birth years of 3,222 CI cases, and then Chi-square test was adopted to determine differences among them. Results Distribution of heavenly stems and dominant qi in birth years of CI patients showed some significant differences (P < 0.05). Specifically, the highest incidence of CI was associated with the year of Yi (lack of metal circuit) while the lowest incidence of CI was related to the year of Ji (lack of earth circuit). Additionally, the highest incidence of CI occurred in the period of the 4th qi (referring to damp qi in the theory of five circuits and six qi) while the lowest incidence of CI appeared in the period of 6thqi (referring to cold qi in the theory of five circuits and six qi) (P < 0. 05). Conclusion Distribution of heavenly stems and dominant qi in birth years may have some influence on the risk of CI.
