    Abstract

Macau was a Portuguese colony, an entrepot of East-West trade, and a base for Christian missions. It has now become a world tourist attraction with its churches, heritage buildings, casinos, and motoring events. Through looking at the historical images of Macau in the 18th and 19th centuries, it is hoped that we can have a better understanding of the changing situations during and after the Opium War (1839-1842).
