Abstract

Based on the contrastive interlanguage analysis method, this study investigates the distributional characteristics of shi constructions in modern Chinese and interlanguages of second language learners of Chinese at different stages through corpus analysis, aiming to reveal the principles of second language acquisition and provide references for second language teaching of Chinese. The study selected language materials from modern Chinese corpora and interlanguage corpora to comparatively analyze the usage frequency and type distribution of shi constructions. Results show that the high-frequency types of shi constructions in modern Chinese include equivalence relations, categorization relations, and situation explanations, which are significantly influenced by the paratactic features and holistic thinking of the Chinese language. Shi constructions in interlanguage develop dynamically with learning stages: learners at elementary level primarily prefer simple sentence patterns. Types of shi construction expanded to 9 at the intermediate stage with the emergence of metaphorical and responsive functional types. Advanced learners approach the target language but retain differences in thinking habits. The study concludes that the holistic thinking and paratactic expression of the Chinese nation are the core reasons for differences between interlanguage and the target language. It suggests adopting a "stage-appropriate" teaching strategy, emphasizing training in contextual ellipsis and subjective evaluation functions.
