Dr. Lixiang ZHAI has established a prolific academic and research trajectory focusing on the interactions between gut microbiota and Chinese Medicine in basic and clinical studies of functional bowel disorders, metabolic disorders and aging.
1. Investigation of gut microbiota in the development and treatment of non-communicable diseases including functional gastrointestinal disorders, metabolic disorders and aging.
2. Investigation of Chinese medicine and food supplements for the treatment of functional gastrointestinal disorders, metabolic disorders and aging.
Biography
Dr. Lixiang Zhai completed his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in Chinese Medicine at Guangdong Pharmaceutical University in 2015, followed by a Ph.D. in Chinese Medicine from Hong Kong Baptist University in 2021. He underwent postdoctoral training at the Centre for Chinese Herbal Medicine Drug Development Limited (@InnoHK) from 2021 to 2022 and currently holds the position of Assistant Professor at the same institution since 2024.
Dr. Zhai's research is at the forefront of understanding the intricate interactions between the host and gut microbiota, which are pivotal in the development of functional bowel disorders, metabolic syndrome, and aging. His focus extends to the clinical translation of Chinese medicine for treating these diseases, demonstrating a commitment to bridging traditional remedies with contemporary medical practices.
Having contributed to prestigious journals like Cell Host & Microbe, Nature Metabolism, Nature Communications, The Journal of Clinical Investigation, ISMEJ, Pharmacological Research, MedComm, Phytomedicine, Phytotherapy Research and others, Dr. Zhai's publications underscore his significant impact on the fields of microbiota research and Chinese medicine. His work not only enriches the scientific community's understanding but also paves the way for novel therapeutic approaches in gastrointestinal and metabolic healthcare.
