Biography
Dr. Lixiang Zhai completed his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in Chinese Medicine at Guangdong Pharmaceutical University in 2015, followed by a Ph.D. in Chinese Medicine from Hong Kong Baptist University in 2021. He underwent postdoctoral training at the Centre for Chinese Herbal Medicine Drug Development Limited (@InnoHK) from 2021 to 2022 and currently holds the position of Assistant Professor at the same institution.
Dr. Zhai's research is at the forefront of understanding the intricate interactions between the host and gut microbiota, which are pivotal in the development of functional bowel disorders, metabolic syndrome, and mental disorders. His focus extends to the clinical translation of Chinese medicine for treating gastrointestinal diseases, such as irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease, demonstrating a commitment to bridging traditional remedies with contemporary medical practices.
Having contributed to prestigious journals like Cell Host & Microbe, Nature Metabolism, Nature Communications, The Journal of Clinical Investigation, Phytomedicine, Phytotherapy Research and others, Dr. Zhai's publications underscore his significant impact on the fields of microbiota research and Chinese medicine. His work not only enriches the scientific community's understanding but also paves the way for novel therapeutic approaches in gastrointestinal healthcare.
