  1. Investigation of gut microbiota in the development of non-communicable diseases including functional gastrointestinal disorders, metabolic disorders and mental disorders.
  2. Investigation of Chinese medicine for the treatment of gut dysbiosis-induced metabolic disorders and functional gastrointestinal disorders.
  3. Metabolomics and lipidomics analysis of medicinal plants for pharmacological research and quality evaluation studies.

Biography

Dr. Lixiang Zhai obtained his B.Sc. in Pharmacy in Chinese Medicine from Guangdong Pharmaceutical University in 2015 and his Ph.D. in Chinese Medicine from Hong Kong Baptist University in 2021. He received his postdoctoral training at the Centre for Chinese Herbal Medicine Drug Development Limited (@InnoHK) from 2021-2022. He is currently a Research Assistant Professor at School of Chinese Medicine, Hong Kong Baptist University.

Dr. Zhai’s research focuses on the interactions between host and gut microbiota that underlie the development of functional bowel disorders, metabolic syndrome and mental disorders. He is also focused on the clinical translational research of Chinese medicine in the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases including irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease.

Dr. Zhai has published a series of articles in journals including Cell Host&Microbe, Nature Metabolism, Nature Communications, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Phytomedicine, Phytotherapy Research, Biomedicine & Pharmacotherapy and Food & Function.
