Biography

Being a Steinway Concert & Recording Artist and Steinway Honorary Teacher, Dr. Yoonie Han has won top prizes in distinguished international competitions around the world. She is the first- prize winner of the Washington International Piano Competition, Fulbright Concerto Competition, World Piano Competition, Kosciuszko Chopin Competition, Juilliard’s Gina Bachauer Piano Competition, Juilliard’s Frederich Nordmann Piano Competition, Juilliard’s Chopin Piano Competition, and Music Teachers’ National Association Piano Competition. She is a laureate of Helsinki Maj Lind International Piano Competition, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli Prize, Concorso Pianistico Ettore Pozzoli Internaziole, and Valencia International Piano Competition. Following her grand-prize award in the Korea National Music Competition, the Korean Ministry of Culture named her its “Most Promising Artist.” Dr. Han was honored with the Gawon Music Award as the “most brilliant pianist aged 17 to 31 of any nationality who possesses the most promising potential for global prominence.” She is the recipient of “Brava!” award from the Italian Academy Foundation and as well as from the London Keyboard Trust.


Dr. Han has performed with the Berliner Symphoniker, Buffalo Philharmonic, Helsinki Philharmonic, Seoul Philharmonic, Houston Symphony, Miami Symphony, Banff Festival Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Santa Cruz Symphony, I Pomeriggi Musicali di Milan, Presidential Symphony of Turkey, and Juilliard Symphony Orchestra. She has given recitals at the Berlin Philharmonie, Concertgebouw, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Symphony Space, Frick Collections, Morgan Library and Museum, Tanglewood Festival, Hong Kong City Hall, and Bergamo Festival in Italy. She has toured the major Steinway halls in Europe and North America in a support from the Fulbright Foundation.


She has recorded multiple albums with Steinway Records. The first album 'Love and Longing' (2014), was "Album of the week" on WQXR and made the Top 21 on the Billboard Chart. The second album, 'Goyescas' (2017), was released to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of the composer Enrique Granados. The third album presents the complete 'Le Rossignol Éperdu' (2019) by Reynaldo Hahn. Her most recent album 'Hollywood Romance' was released on the Universal Music label (2020). Her previous album 'Romantic Piano' (2013), was released by Concert Artists Guild. A devoted chamber musician, she's a founder and pianist at Gloriosa Piano Trio together with the prize-winner of Tchaikovsky International Violin Competition and the principal cellist of Nashville Symphony Orchestra. The trio's debut album (2019) was released on the Centaur Records label. Her other albums on Steinway & Sons include ‘Steinway Chill out’ (2017), ‘Liszt on Steinway’ (2017), and ‘Prokofiev on Steinway’ (2017).


As a respectful pedagogue, she has given lectures at Harvard University, New York University, Indiana University, City University of New York, State University of New York, Boston University, Berklee College of Music, the University of California, and the University of Utah, to name a few. Her humanitarian efforts have included concerts for such organizations as the American Cancer Society, the Philippines Cancer Society, and the Legal Aid Society. Her corporate sponsorships have included watchmaker Breguet, couture fashion house Dolce & Gabanna, and home decor Roche Bobois.

 

Dr. Han received her Bachelor's degree from the Curtis Institute of Music, her Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School, her Artist Diploma from University of Montreal, and her Doctorate from Stony Brook University. She is the founder and Artistic Director of the Istanbul International Piano Festival (previously Bilkent Piano Festival) and Steinway  & Sons Awards in Turkey.
