Yiming Ha is an Assistant Professor at the Department of History at Hong Kong Baptist University. His research focuses on the development and evolution of military institutions and policy during the Mongol-Yuan and Ming dynasties (13th to early 17th centuries) and the military's role in state-society relations. His current book project seeks to reconstruct the lives of ordinary soldiers in North China under Mongol rule and in doing so highlights the strategies military personnel employed in adapting to and negotiating with Mongol rule and institutions.
Yiming serves as the book review editor of the journal Ming Studies. He also runs two digital public history projects - the Chinese History Podcast and the Ming History English Translation Project. Both projects seek to make Chinese history more accessible to the general public.
Prior to joining HKBU, Yiming was the Rand Postdoctoral Fellow in Asian Studies at Pomona College from 2024-2025. He received his PhD from UCLA in 2024. His dissertation research has been funded by various grants from the Fulbright-Hays Program, the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office, and the Terasaki Center for Japanese Studies.
