Biography

Yuk-shing Cheng is Professor of Economics at Hong Kong Baptist University.  He served as the Head of Department during 2014-2021.  He is the founding director of the Centre for Sustainable Development Studies, a new research centre established in July 2022.  His research primarily focuses on insitutional and developmental issues of China, covering income inequality, rural institutions, fiscal decentralisation, regional disparity, state enterprises, trade, energy and environment. He has also coauthored a book entitled "Hong Kong's Global Financial Centre and China's Development: Changing Roles and Future Prospects" (with Yan-leung Cheung and Chi-keung Woo Routledge, 2017).
