Biography

Yuk-shing Cheng is a Professor of Economics at Hong Kong Baptist University. He served as Head of the Department from September 2014 to August 2021 and as Interim Dean from September 2023 to December 2024. He is the founding director of the Centre for Sustainable Development Studies, a research centre established in July 2022. His research primarily focuses on institutional and developmental issues in China, including income inequality, rural institutions, fiscal decentralisation, regional disparity, state enterprises, trade, energy, and the environment. He has also co-authored a book entitled "Hong Kong's Global Financial Centre and China's Development: Changing Roles and Future Prospects," published by Routledge in 2017.
