Biography
I have joined the Department of Religion and Philosophy at Hong Kong Baptist University since 2012. My research areas are 1. History of Christianity in China; 2. Chinese Christian social participation; 3. Christian theology; 4. Interdisciplinary study between theology and narrative therapy; 5. Peace studies.
I have published 5 monographs, 1 online database, 33 peer reviewed journal articles, 21 book chapters, edited two books, and edited 1 special issue of an A&HCI journal. Since I joined HKBU in 2012, I have received three 3-years research grants (HKD557,000, HKD406,964 and HKD264,400) as principal investigator from General Research Fund of Research Grant Council of Hong Kong. I also received several external competitive grants: i) HKD1,000,000 from Tin Ka Ping Foundation; ii) HKD400,000 from CWM / Nethersole Fund; iii) HKD310,752 from United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia.
In teaching, I have received President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Teaching of HKBU in 2018. I was a team member of a funded project (HKD6,087,998) under the Funding Scheme for Teaching and Learning (2016-2019 Triennium) of University Grant Council. I have championed the programme revamp of the Department in 2016. I was a member of programme planning team of the University’s new transdisciplinary programmes. I was also a task force member for the UGC-Quality Assurance Visit, 2023.
I was visiting scholar at King’s College London, Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, University of Edinburgh, University of Oxford, and Duke University. I was Langham Scholar when I studied my PhD at King’s College London. I served as the President of the Society for the Study of the History of Christianity in China (2018-2020). For public engagement, I have been invited by the Yale Center for Faith & Culture and Christianity Today to talk on public theology and Christian social participation. I serve as member in the council of Northeast Asia Reconciliation Initiative, and in the Curriculum Development Committee of Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority.
