Biography
Dr. Patricia Sauthoff (PhD, SOAS, University of London) focuses her research on explorations of death, medicine, health, anti-aging, sexuality, gender, and ritual in Sanskrit religious and religio-medical texts with an emphasis on tantra and alchemy (rasaśāstra). She is the author of Illness and Immortality (2022 Oxford University Press).
She has taught MA and undergraduate students in North America and Asia, received her PhD in Europe, and regularly speaks at international conferences and in global media outlets. She has more than a decade of experience as a print and digital journalist with a particular focus on arts, politics, and the media industry.
Her teaching utilizes innovative approaches and creative projects to allow students a well-rounded experience of the subject matter, rather than focus solely on written texts. This offers students an opportunity to put their real-world skills and interest to work in ways that will benefit them in and outside of academia.
