Biography

Dr. Chan is a Research Assistant Professor in the School of Chinese Medicine at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). He received his PhD from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2022. As an accomplished investigator, Dr. Chan has published 29 SCI-indexed papers with a cumulative Impact Factor exceeding 260, including 9 as first author and 2 as corresponding author. His high-impact research includes prominent first-author publications in prestigious journals such as Science Immunology and Autophagy, as well as co-corresponding author work in the Journal of Translational Medicine.

Dr. Chan’s research program bridges translational and mechanistic approaches to investigate the systemic drivers of inflammatory skin disorders. His current work focuses on the interactions between psychological stress-associated fibroblasts and the microbiota during disease onset, progression, and prevention. By mapping the intricate crosstalk among stress hormones, microbial ecology, and immunity, his research aims to establish clear causal mechanisms that advance the field of preventative dermatology.

Reserach Interests

  • Fibroblast-Mediated Immunoregulation in Skin Disorders: Investigating how dermal fibroblasts actively modulate immune responses and contribute to the pathogenesis of inflammatory skin conditions.

  • Host-Microbiota Interactions in Inflammatory Diseases: Exploring the complex crosstalk between host immunity and microbial ecology to uncover systemic drivers of inflammation.
