Biography

Leevan Ling, Professor, received his Ph.D. at Simon Fraser University in 2003 and joint Hong Kong Baptist University in 2006. Over the past years, Leevan has served as Acting Head, Associate Head, and Program Director of the Department of Mathematics. He took on a central part in the development of several undergraduate B.Sc. curriculums, including the current B.Sc. in Math & Stats program with an optional Concentration in Actuarial Statistics in cooperation with SFU. He is also well recognized for his work on General Education. He was in taskforces for the 3+3+4 Curriculum, eLearning Committee, and GE Working Group that were introduced when HKBU reformed from a 3- to 4-year curriculum in 2012. He was the leader of a Quality Assurance Subgroup in charge of vetting course proposals in the complementary GE category in math. Later, he served as a member of the Standing Committee on GE Committee. He has published five textbooks for GE mathematics. He was awarded the Faculty Performance Award in Service in 2011 and in Teaching in 2013.

Research Interests

Prof. Leevan Ling is an applied mathematician with primary research interests in algorithm designs and numerical analysis. His research interests include scientific computing, meshless methods, and numerical analysis. He authored more than 80 publications in international journals and has joint the editorial boards of Engineering Analysis with Boundary Element (since 2008), Advances in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (since 2010), and International Journal of Computer Mathematics (since 2020).
