Biography

Professor Cheah Kok Wai's research on the liminescence property of porous silicon helped the University gain its first patent, and based on this work the silicon-based ultra-violet LED was developed. His notable ArmoGlass stood out from 1,000 projects from 40 countries and won Grand Prix Award, a Gold Medal and a Special Award at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, the world's largest event of its kind, IN 2016. His invention on 'Anti-scratch thin film coating on metal surface' won the Gold Medal eith the Congratulations in the 2021 Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions. Another patneted invention entitled 'Sapphire thin film coated substrate' has been awarded Excellent Award at the 3rd Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Grater Bay Area (GBA) High-Value Patnet Portfolio Contest 2021 held in Foshan in November 2021. The special substrate is one of only two awardees from Hong Kong. His papers and publications are frequently referred to by scholars. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and is lauded with the IAAM Scientist Award by the International Association of Advanced Materials for his outstanding contributions to research in advanced materials and plasmonic nano-structures.
