Biography
Dr. Howard K.Y. Yu is a Lecturer in the Department of Geography at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). He holds a PhD in Earth Science from The University of Hong Kong, an MSc in Geoscience from University College London, and a BSocSc (Hons) in Geography from HKBU.
Focusing on coastal resilience and sea-level change, Dr. Yu works at the intersection of coastal geology, palaeoenvironmental reconstruction, Holocene sea-level history, mangrove and mudflat ecosystems, and climate change. His research uses geological, ecological, and geochemical evidence, including foraminifera, diatoms, stable carbon isotopes, C/N geochemistry, and environmental DNA, to reconstruct past coastal environments and relative sea-level changes across Asia and beyond.
Dr. Yu has published in journals including Marine Geology, Scientific Reports, and Communications Earth & Environment. He has also received funding, including support from Hong Kong’s Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department for work on ancient coastal environments and vegetation evolution in Hong Kong.
