Biography
Prof. Hubiao Chen graduated from Hunan Normal University in 1983. He obtained his PhD degree at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Beijing Medical University in 1988. From 1989-2006, he served at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Peking University Health Science Center as a lecturer (1989), associate professor (1990) and professor (1997). During that period, he also went to Tokyo Metropolitan University as a visiting scholar in 1995 and worked as an assistant professor at Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kanazawa University from 2000-2002 in Japan. In 2006, he joined the School of Chinese Medicine, Hong Kong Baptist University, where he is currently a professor and serves as the Programme Director of Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) in Chinese Medicine. Over the years, he has specialized in research in plant taxonomy, chemistry of natural products and scientific research into the resource and quality assessment of Chinese medicinal materials. He has published over 250 associated papers in domestic and international journals and 80 books that are related with plant taxonomy, medicinal botany and Chinese herbal medicines. Prof. Chen also serves as member of the editorial board for several professional publications such as Journal of Chinese Pharmaceutical Sciences, China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica, and so on. In addition, he also actively promotes the Chinese medicine digitalization and has launched five online databases that are as follows. This project received 2012 American Library Association (ALA) Presidential Citation for Innovative International Library award.
