Biography

 

Elaine W. Ng is Assisant Professor at the Academy of Visual Arts and Associate Programme Director of the Master of Science in Marketing for the Creative Economy, Hong Kong Baptist University. She lectures on modern and contemporary Asian art history, feminist art history, art criticism, and research methodologies for the visual arts. She has also been a guest speaker at academic institutions, including School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Seoul National University, Sotheby’s Institute, and Christie’s Education.

 

Ng’s main academic interests are contemporary art, particularly in Asia and the non-Western world, and issues of education, philanthropy, and the role of art in the community. She is concerned with sustainable ecosystems for the arts, including the development of a rationally balanced art market that embraces a variety of mediums, practitioners and platforms. She actively supports greater gender diversity within the field and the visibility of experimental practices, particularly video and performance art.

 

Since 2010, Ng has been on the board of directors of Asia Art Archive in America, and currently sits on the academic advisory board of Asia Art Archive in Hong Kong and the advisory board of Alserkal Avenue in Dubai.
