Biography
Professor Chris KC Wong obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 1996. In the same year, the Croucher Foundation awarded Chris a Fellowship to pursue his post-doctoral study at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. He returned to Hong Kong and continued his research study as a post-doctoral fellow and a Research Assistant Professor at the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and HKU respectively. He secured his tenure-track Assistant Professorship in 2001 at HKBU and was promoted to Associate Professor in Biology, and appointed as the Associate Director at Croucher Institute for Environmental Sciences (CIES) in 2005.
In the Year 2010, Chris received his Professorship and was the Head of the Departmet of Biology in 2012-2015. Chris was the convenor (2017-2020) to coordinate the development of the University Interdisciplinary Research Cluster “Health and Drug Discovery.” He had served as the grant-review panel member in the Biology and Medicine Panel (Research Grant Council, RGC), Hong Kong Ph.D. Fellowship (RGC), and Human and Medical Research Funds (HKSAR).
Chris had also served as the committee members in different government boards, including the Expert Committee on Food Safety, Working Group on Amendment to Food Adulteration, Working group in Marine Mammal Conservation and as a panel member for “Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowships” and “Scholarships and Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme, HKSAR.”
To the year of 2020, Chris has secured over 18 million research funding from the General Research Fund (GRF), Collaborative Research Fund (CRF), National Natural Science Foundation (NSFC) of China and Shenzhen Science, Technology and Innovation Commission (SZSTI) in the capacity of the Principal Investigator. Chris has published over 190 peer-reviewed journal papers, with over 8600 citations and H-index of 51.
Currently, Chris is the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Science, Director of Croucher Institute for Environmental Sciences, Associate Director of Partner State Key Laboratory of Environmental and Biological Analysis, Associate Director of HKBU-RCEES Joint Institute of Environmental Sciences, the management committee member of the State Key Laboratory in Marine Pollution at the City University of Hong Kong and a founding member in the Government-Industry (UGI) Consortium at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is also serving as the Biology & Medicine Subject Convenor, the Assessment Panel for Competitive Research Funding Schemes for the Local Self-financing Degree Sector (APSF), and the panel member of the Biology & Medicine Subject (Joint Research Schemes), Research Grant Council, Hong Kong.

- Functional characterization of human glycoprotein hormones, STC1 and STC2 in carcinogenesis.
