On Wednesday’s Backchat we’re looking at Michelle Yeoh’s historic Oscar win and what it means for Asian cinema.

The Malaysian actress took home Oscar’s  Best Actress trophy on Monday, for her performance in “Everything Everywhere All at Once”— making her the first Asian to win in a lead acting category.

 

She started her acting career in Hong Kong in the eighties before breaking through to Hollywood in the 1997 James Bond movie - Tomorrow Never Dies.

 

Now that she has taken home the top prize, what does it mean for Asian actors, and Asian cinema?
