The Agender Cafe serves up a delicious array of topics on gender, sex, sexuality and society. Every week we have a frank, open conversation with our guests about issues which affect us all, and try to tackle some of those “taboo” topics.
Sit down with hosts Karen Koh & Noreen Mir every Friday from 2-3pm and enjoy a visit to the Agender Cafe!
On today's Agender Cafe, Karen Koh and Noreen Mir discuss gender and racial diversity in movies and TV, both on-and-off screen, in light of Beijing born director Chloe Zhao's win at the Oscars. Chloe Zhao made history on Monday by being the first Asian female to win an Oscar for directing the film Nomadland. In today's Agender Cafe we ask how significant this is, with Professor Gina Marchetti, Director of the Center for the Study of Globalization and Cultures, in the Department of Comparative Literature at the University of Hong Kong. Gina Marchetti teaches courses in film, gender and sexuality, critical theory, and cultural studies. And Dr Jason Coe, Assistant Professor in the Academy of Film at Hong Kong Baptist University, will also be with us.
