International Conference organised at the Ateneo Veneto, Venice on 7 July 2022.
The one-day conference aims to bring together scholars from various disciplinary backgrounds to explore and examine understandings and representations of d/Deafness and hardness of hearing covering a chronological period that spans from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century. Organised in three sessions, the conference interrogates deaf culture from artistic, visual, historical, legal and social perspectives. The papers aim at drawing out trends and new insights, and thereby offering new perspectives on early modern and modern deaf cultures.
